Recently I became really pasionate about VR and bought a 10$ cardboard and tried it with my android device. After a awhile I had the chance to test the oculus rift(600-700$) too.
The difference is big but not very much. I saw the same thing but the feeling was different. With my cardboard I still felt like I'm in the real world and my eyes are in VR.
Oculus was different. I felt like I'm in the world I see. The game I liked the most is named Crazy Swifter and every time I tried with Oculus I almost fell, my legs were shaking and my heart beating was high. I saw the same thing with cardboard but again, the feeling was different.
Concluion: is it worth to pay 600$ for a VR headset insead of 10$ for google cardboard?
    -NO
Even if it was awesome and things like this after a while you get bored and you will forget about your headset. It's not his time yet.

Man i'm also really getting into VR, I think i'm gonna buy a Cardboard box and test it out with my phone.
What i really wanted to try is "The Walk" on the playstation VR.
Man it looks so realistic! I think they have it available for android device also, but just like you said, with the actual headset you feel like your in the world you see.
But i also think it's not worth the 600-700$. As cool as it is your going to get bored quick and forget all about it sooner or later.
Hopefully the prices drop in the near future.

I recommend 5 games for your cardboard
    1. VR Tunnel Race Free
    2. VR X-Racer – Aero Racing Games
    3. Germbuster VR
    4. Crazy Swing VR
    5. InMind VR
